"Don't cheat! Don't teach Christianity!"
I mainly like the app but they DEFINITELY said I would get 2 days' notice before changing my trial subscription into a paying one. THEY GAVE NO NOTICE AT ALL - THIS IS NOT HONEST!!!! I suddenly got billed by Apple and now I have to fight it. ARGGHHH!... Like I said, I mainly like the app but I feel disrespected by their continual teaching of the phrase "Jesus be with you." WE ARE NOT ALL CHRISTIANS. They also repeatedly teach "God be with you" which I don't find as disrespectful, but I understand that others might.

I would love to chat with someone. I do not understand why I must pay money to continue certain lessons!And if I don’t I have to discontinue the lesson. . No matter how many times I say “ NO, THANKS” why?..

"Duolingo goes from bad to worse for this learner"
Duolingo keeps changing the structure of the Spanish course. Suddenly I had modules where I was giving commands but wait..absolutely no instruction on the grammar, what verb has what ending. The same for the conditional....you're expected to guess what ending a verb will have. You find out when you make a mistake and lose a heap of marks sorry per cent via their weird marking system.
As for the silly voices, I'm so tired of the one meant to sound like a child and I think someone has already commented on the man with constipation !
Also you query something, a bland thank you for your feedback appears on your screen but there is NO feedback from them absolutely none.
I have invested so much time in the Spanish course I feel I should continue but they just took my current year's
subscription without asking. Try that next year and I will report them to the Australian fair trading authorities.
I've had enough but will continue to close to when next years 'automatic deduction' occurs.
And don't get me started on the political correctness embedded in the so called lessons......

"Monthly Selected, Annual Payment Taken"
Downloaded this for my son who wants to learn Ukranian. Thought I'd get it pay monthly to see how he goes, as kids lose interest. Only just found out that they've taken a full year's subscription without advance warning, only heard from my bank that payment has been made. Thought we were very careful in selecting the monthly sub but looks like thats not the case. Very dissapointing. Buyer beware. contacting Duo Lingo and they hvave agreed to refund, but one to keep an eye on with the end of trial period not being notified.

When I started duolingo 4 years ago i could learn at my own pace and enjoyed it. Now they force you to "learn" along a predetermined path. The staff may be fluent in languages, but they don't seem to know anything about learning. I HATE, HATE, HATE this new format !!!!! They used to have what sounded like professional teachers speaking for the listening exercises. Then they added these really annoying voices. One guy sounds constipated. If you want to learn a language this is a good place to start, but it is a free app so you get what you pay for.

A really awful app. Continually freezing or crashing.
Want to start a lesson?. You'll likely spend a minute or two watching an owl dancing up and down on the screen before a lesson starts. And then repeated before the next lesson. The reliability of the app has steadilly reduced over time which I'm quessing is as they add languages and complications. And no, its not my phone or tablet as I have it loaded on different phones / mobiles and all the same.
My experience is limited to French and as far as a learning tool is concerned, it is very good if you simply wish to learn to read. To communicate with and understand the oral language it will not take you above a very base level.
My experience with Duolingo has today reached 2000 consecutive days

"I do have reservations BUT…"
I do have criticisms about Duolingo- such as the lack of grammar exercises and the ads. However, after seeing the homophobic criticisms on here, I thought I’d add my 2 cents. Criticisms based around prejudice and homophobia are not valid, and anyone with the most basic critical thinking abilities can clearly separate the gender of nouns from personal identities.

Sorry but if you can’t then you’re not fit to learn a new language.

Don't try to ask them to delete your personal data - they instruct you to do it yourself then take it personally and send you a rude response when you remind them that they are legally obliged to do it on your behalf.

I had 24 weeks in the Diamond League. Now I have 23. WTH Duolingo? I would send a message about what happened, but since they never have responded in the past it's a waste of time. No customer service. Moving on to Babbel.

"Do not try to learn Arabic from…"
Do not try to learn Arabic from Duolingo. First, the point size of the letters is so very small, one cannot discern the actual marks above and below the letters. But what is even WORSE is that their exercises have you choose the order of the letters in a word or phrase, and then when the answer is shown, the letters have been joined into their cursive form BEFORE showing the correct order, so the student is left trying to figure out what just happened. In other words, YOU CANNOT LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES because the CORRECT ORDER cannot be discerned from what DUOLINGO shows as the answer. Could have been done by slowly forming the words by showing the order and then the form. ENORMOUSLY FRUSTRATING. THE LEADERSHIP OF THIS COMPANY ARE ABSOLUTE FOOLS.

"My Duoling App is stuck"
My Duoling App is stuck. Got to my 93 day streak and now I can't do anything further on the app. I flagged my app that there was aproblem. No one fixed anything. I emailed Duolingo to ask for help, they email back and basically say they don't respond to emails. 2 Weeks later still nothing is fixed. I guess because I'm not paying for the premium account that they don't care, or would prefer I pay for it. I have removed the app from my phone. Terrrible service! What a waste of time.

“It's free. Other platforms offer you free services until a specific level. Duolingo doesn't do that. You can remain as a free user all the time.”
